Responsibility Brand Strategy, Visual Identity, Design Systems & Creative Direction

Overview

ULearn is Comcast’s internal learning ecosystem, supporting a broad range of programs, initiatives, and audiences across the organization.

As part of the Visual Design team, I helped develop and evolve the ULearn visual identity into a flexible brand system capable of supporting an expanding portfolio of learning products.

The goal was not simply to create a single recognizable look. We needed to build a visual framework that could scale.

Each ULearn product needed enough individuality to communicate its own subject matter and personality, while remaining unmistakably connected to the larger ULearn brand. My work focused on establishing that balance through art direction, visual systems, color, typography, illustration, iconography, and reusable design principles.

The Challenge

A growing learning ecosystem creates an interesting brand challenge: consistency can quickly become sameness.

ULearn needed a cohesive master brand, but programs ranging from artificial intelligence to compliance training and emerging technology required very different visual tones.

The challenge was to create a system that could:

  • Establish a recognizable ULearn visual language

  • Give individual learning products their own identities

  • Accommodate multiple Comcast brands and audiences

  • Scale across presentations, digital learning, video, PDFs, and other formats

  • Provide designers with clear principles rather than rigid templates

Instead of treating each initiative as an isolated campaign, we approached ULearn as a connected family of brands.

My Role

My work centered on translating strategic learning objectives into flexible visual systems and establishing creative direction that could scale across teams and deliverables.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Helped define and evolve the overarching ULearn visual language

  • Developed visual identities and Look & Feel Frameworks for individual ULearn products

  • Established color, typography, illustration, iconography, layout, and graphic-element systems

  • Created scalable design guidance for use across multiple formats

  • Balanced individual product identities with the equity of the ULearn master brand

  • Designed and reviewed visual applications to ensure consistency

  • Collaborated with designers and stakeholders to translate program objectives into distinct creative directions

  • Built systems intended to support future content rather than one-off deliverables

Building a Brand Family

Rather than creating identical extensions of the ULearn identity, we developed individual systems around the central idea of shared DNA, distinct personalities.

ULearn provided the foundation. From there, each product could introduce its own palette, graphic language, imagery, and conceptual device while maintaining recognizable connections to the parent brand.

This created a flexible architecture in which new initiatives could feel purpose-built without requiring an entirely new brand to be invented each time.

AI Forward

For AI Forward, the identity needed to communicate possibility, transformation, and technological progress without losing the human-centered qualities of the ULearn brand.

The visual system centered around The Spark, a graphic element representing the moment human capability and artificial intelligence converge. The Spark became both a product symbol and an expressive design device, supported by a vibrant green, blue, and teal gradient system.

The resulting identity feels energetic and forward-looking while retaining clear visual connections to ULearn.

FDX

The FDX system presented a different challenge: creating a visual identity that could sit comfortably alongside ULearn, XClass, and Comcast Business.

The creative direction was built around the defining idea of symmetrical speed.

A blue-to-purple-to-red gradient connects the three brand environments, while parallel graphic lines create a visual metaphor for symmetry, movement, and uninterrupted progress.

Rather than forcing one brand language to dominate, the system finds common visual territory between them.

Integrity & Compliance

For Integrity & Compliance, the visual direction needed to communicate trust, clarity, and professionalism while supporting a wide variety of learning topics.

The system uses clean geometric forms, generous whitespace, structured illustration, and a controlled palette rooted in ULearn green and Comcast blue. Accent colors from NBCUniversal and Sky allow the materials to work across Comcast’s broader brand ecosystem without losing their ULearn foundation.

The result is a calm, accessible visual language that keeps complex content approachable while maintaining a strong sense of consistency.

Outcome

The ULearn brand evolved into a flexible visual ecosystem capable of supporting multiple learning products without sacrificing cohesion.

Rather than relying on a single visual treatment, the system creates a recognizable family of distinct identities, giving teams the flexibility to communicate different subjects, audiences, and experiences while remaining connected to the larger ULearn brand.

The result is a scalable framework built not only for the work that existed at the time, but for the programs and learning experiences that would come next.
